Collection: David Shillinglaw | Artist

David Shillinglaw is a London-based British painter and muralist, born in 1982 in the Middle East to British parents, which may explain his thirst for travel and his record of exhibiting in galleries worldwide. Since graduating from Central Saint Martins in London in 2002, he has exhibited in galleries across Japan, China, The Gambia and Holland, and in key cities including New York, London, Berlin and Istanbul.

Known for works that explore human nature, success and failure, and the language people use in the context of their experiences, David Shillinglaw's contemporary art is instantly recognisable. Interested in drawing since childhood, when he doodled and drew his favourite cartoon characters constantly, his earliest influences were comics and cartoons, and they continue to shape his distinctive style today.

His art also draws from Ancient Egypt, and he holds a deep appreciation for children's drawings, believing that children see the world from a perspective adults have lost. Another defining force is his medium: Shillinglaw often changes media, believing fresh ideas come from the constant growth and evolution of his artistic expression. He sees his body of work as a whole, with each new painting, mural or print adding to it.

David Shillinglaw's limited-edition prints, paintings and murals are sought after by collectors of contemporary British art, urban art and street art looking for bold, playful works full of character.
