Biography
Hannah Lipsey is a British hyperrealist artist whose work is rooted in coloured-pencil drawing, focusing on reflective surfaces, metallic objects and intricate textures. Her hyperrealistic drawings capture shine, light and material detail with astonishing precision, creating illusions that compel viewers to pause, reflect and sometimes reach out as if to touch the surface.
Hannah grew up near Liverpool, England, and earned a BA (Hons) Fine Art degree at the University of Wales Institute Cardiff in 2011, initially specialising in abstract landscape painting. Between 2018 and 2020, she began to experiment seriously with pencil drawing, rediscovering her passion for art in the process.
There she found what truly excited her: the challenge of recreating shine, metallic surfaces and the illusions of light and realism. Her methodology involves painstaking pencil layering and careful attention to tonal contrast, light and shadow, producing original drawings that are not simply representations but illusions, true hyperrealism in coloured pencil.
Since fully dedicating herself to her art practice, Hannah has exhibited at major events including the Affordable Art Fair London (2023) and the Affordable Art Fair New York (2024), as well as specialist hyperrealist shows such as the 2023 exhibition at Byard Art in Cambridge.
Hannah Lipsey's hyperrealist drawings and limited-edition prints are sought after by collectors of contemporary realism, still life art and British hyperrealism looking for technically extraordinary, collectable works.
