Victorian floristry had a secret code: every flower in a bouquet carried a meaning, so you could say what you dared not speak. Floriography. Jules has mixed things up (hence the title): the tulips declare love and the cosmos symbolise joy, but ammi means fantasy, anemone means to be forsaken, hydrangea evokes dispassion and peony, anger. So not all is as it first appears. It's a bouquet with a hidden message, and old score sheet music woven through the layers adds depth to the background. Once someone tells you the secret, you'll never look at it the same way.

Jules Wild works from her garden studio in the Cotswolds. With a degree in ceramic design and a background in marketing, she retrained as a floral designer over 18 years ago and built an award-winning wedding and event flower company. When that business stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic, she returned to her artistic roots, and the response to the work she shared on Instagram mid-lockdown was so positive she is now committed to creating art full time. Her artwork blends the romantic side of florals with the grittier side of urban art and graffiti: a colourful, edgy juxtaposition of collaged, stencilled, painted and photographic elements.
