This print is taken from a larger artwork of the same name but zooms right in: one abstracted flower with a vivid poppy at its centre. It is the boldest, most graphic crop in the collection, all colour and gesture rather than a full still-life scene. As with nearly all her work, the graffiti references originate from Bristol, the artist's local city, renowned for its varied street art and graffiti culture. Jules Wild works from her garden studio in the Cotswolds. With a degree in ceramic design and a background in marketing, she retrained as a floral designer over 18 years ago and built an award-winning wedding and event flower company. When that business stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic, she returned to her artistic roots, and the response to the work she shared on Instagram mid-lockdown was so positive she is now committed to creating art full time. Her artwork blends the romantic side of florals with the grittier side of urban art and graffiti: a colourful, edgy juxtaposition of collaged, stencilled, painted and photographic elements.
