In 'Change' (2022), a nude woman is intertwined with vibrant florals and soaring birds. Digital edits, neon highlights and surreal collage give the familiar nude a contemporary twist: Gallagher splicing representations of passive femininity with wild natural forms, drawing on mythology and art history. It is her feminist narrative made visible, something beautiful created out of something that could have been brutal, and it rewards the kind of looking that uncovers the symbolism hidden in her layers.
