"In the Navy, yes, you can sail the seven seas": the 1979 Village People anthem, famous enough that the actual US Navy tried to recruit with it, now pressed into thick Somerset satin paper with no ink at all. The words exist purely as embossed relief and shadow, revealing themselves as the light moves, which suits a title that is really a song you can hear in your head. Deadpan, musical, and very British in its delivery, it is the pop-culture pick of Corinna Wilson's embossed series, signed and numbered from an edition of 100. Bob & Eve is the creative pseudonym of British textile artist Corinna Wilson, based in Brighton. The name is a double joke: 'bobbin' and 'weave' for her textile practice, and 'Eve' in place of her husband Steve's name, a running reference she takes pleasure in. She grew up surrounded by tapestries, cross-stitch and patchwork quilts, studied Illustration at the University of Brighton, worked as a digital illustrator for clients including Fortnum & Mason, and founded a homewares company stocked at Selfridges and Liberty before returning to craft with Bob & Eve in 2020. She and her husband brainstorm the slogans together, bouncing funny phrases off one another. On her inspirations, in her own words: "I've always loved British humour and music, when people reference the everyday conversation or topics so distinctive to British society... I want to create some joy and laughter through my artwork".
