From a distance, 'Deliverance' may appear to be a depiction of a typical butterfly. Take a step closer and things become more interesting: Yap uses skulls and imagery sourced from vintage erotica to create the patterns adorning the butterfly's wings. The red earth colourway is the boldest of the minis, closest in temperature to her celebrated red foil edition, and red is the colour that makes the wing's hidden details read almost as pattern rather than concealment: the darkness hiding in plain sight, which is the whole point of the series. The butterfly is her most sustained body of work, a symbol of transformation and freedom, and this mini format is its accessible on-ramp, with hand-foiled 50 × 50cm editions selling at £450.
