From a distance, 'Deliverance' may appear to be a depiction of a typical butterfly. Take a step closer and things become more interesting: Yap uses skulls and imagery sourced from vintage erotica to create the patterns adorning the butterfly's wings. It is her signature move, the juxtaposition of dark and beautiful, and the yellow ground colourway makes the hidden details glow. Originally from Singapore, Cassandra Yap is an artist and art director based in London. Her work often explores the juxtaposition between dark and beautiful subjects to create the surreal. Her art delves into reclaiming the narrative around desire, exploring how women experience and express love in both its tender and fierce forms to feel empowered, celebrated and seen. Her work has featured in exhibitions including Print Club London's Blisters shows, the London Illustration Fair, Affordable Art Fair, Film 4 Summer Screens at Somerset House and Scream Gallery, with commissions and collaborations including Wonderland Magazine, Lily Vanilli, Bobby White London, Moussy Tokyo and Film 4.
