Why collectors love it

Two corrections that make this piece more interesting than the listing suggests. First, the medium: the artist's own site describes 'Equating I' as a 2004 etching with a hand-applied mark, and Christie's records the series as an aquatint in colours with hand colouring, impressions numbered within an edition of 150, so this is an etching enhanced by the artist's hand, not a plain screen print. Second, what you are buying is an Artist's Proof, IV of X, outside and ahead of the numbered edition of 150, with Art Reserve noting "only a few Artist's Proofs remaining". 'Equating' is the pairing title: two compositions (I and II) weighing against each other, the equating of the series name.

About the artist

Charlotte Cornish is a painter and printmaker who has been working professionally for over 30 years, with much of her work held in public, private and corporate collections, including colleges within the University of Cambridge, the Bank of England, Fujitsu, the British Medical Association, the Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge and UCLH. She studied Fine Art at the Slade School of Art in 1992, with further studies at Central Saint Martins, and later returned to the Slade as an Honorary Research Assistant in the Printmaking Department followed by part-time lecturing at De Montfort University. She is an elected member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (ARE). On her inspirations, in her own words: "I am drawn to places full of intense atmosphere, colours, noises, smells, and I hope to capture something of these experiences in the work... I have always loved exploring the possibilities of colour and colour relationships and the infinite potential to create dynamic connections and reactions".
