The deluxe edition of Baldwin's swallow print: a silkscreen finished with gold leaf, taking the Love and Light series into precious-metal territory. 'The deluxe editions was from the idea of a gold and silver leaf version, utilising my two favourite colours pink and blue. We mixed a fantastic pacific blue, and a vibrant bubble-gum strawberry pink' says Baldwin. The series grew from Baldwin's 2018 project for CALM, the Campaign Against Living Miserably, and the title Love and Light was chosen as a reminder to remain on the positive side of life.
Dan Baldwin blends the abstract with the figurative to create works that intersect reality and fantasy. Swallows are a motif seen across his oeuvre, often used to represent freedom. His frequently recurring motifs, from skeletons to swallows, flowers to firearms, crucifixes to cartoon characters, are often contradictory, creating an uncomfortable visual paradox.
