Taken from DS' street piece on Whitecross Street, London, the original of which famously made headlines when a graffiti-removal worker came back to discover an image of himself stencilled on the wall. The print is reproduced in two colourways, this being the blue, printed on heavy gsm card using 10 layers of silk screen printing. Very limited gold and iridescent special editions, printed with a further layer of foil, are also available.
David Schmidt, aka DS, is a US national, UK-bred urban artist, striving to create visually attractive, mentally engaging art all wrapped up in rich colour and form. The first stencils he painted on the streets were in East London in 2002, an area heavily bombarded by some of the now 'greats' of the street art world. Perspective and the use of contrasting imagery, a juxtaposition of old and new, has always interested him; a big reason why a family of dysfunctional angels and cherubs began to evolve in his art, alongside his art grenades and other strange series. The life of a stencil artist is one of contradiction: the act of spray-painting is immediate and chaotic, yet the stencil is created painstakingly with absolute precision.
